EECS 351 Final Project: Piano Synethsizer
Group 6: Jacob Brown, Andrew Gillespie, Darren Ho, Eli Smith
Motivation
Frequently, sports spectators hear organ music as audio managers in the press box commonly play modern songs either on a physical organ, or input the song through a program that outputs an organ-like song. Our initial intention was to build a program that takes in a song and outputs that song as it would be heard played on an organ. Instead, we decided to take this motivation a step further, and take any piano song and modify the song to sound like it was played from a selection of instruments.

Applications
Classic synthesizers require user input from a piano in order to change the sound of a song. Our program automates this procedure as any piano song can be inputted as an audio file, and then the user can select which instrument that they would like to make the song sound like it was played on. This procedure is very useful in audio processing applications as composers, musicians, producers, and DJs commonly want to re-synthesize their music to create more interesting sounds. Additionally, our program can be used to write sheet music from an audio sample, as our program outputs the corresponding notes of the song, in addition to the outputted sound. And finally, our project explored some way to replicate instruments in a digital setting, which is a useful way to play instruments when no physical instruments are available.
